Ok so you have decided you want to create your very own Plug site? Smashing, but I'd say the first thing you should do is be certain you want to run one...they can be a lot of work for little reward. These days mostly Plug sites run themselfs but they do still need some care and attention and advertising...if you think you are going to make a lot of money from selling banner advertising space or stickies then think again, no one is going to buy those things from a brand new Plug site that (more than likely) doesn't send out very many hits. If you are still sure...continue on to my short guide:

* Name
Well the first thing you need is the name obviously, do you know how many plug sites there are these days? A lot. Do you know how many of them have boring/generic names? A lot. Try to pick something that stands out from the rest, but still fits in with the type of site it is, some good examples of good names are Exposure, Get-Plugged, Look-at-this and Publicity stunt.

Now download the script(s) you need here, decide what boards you are going to have, design and create your layout and get cracking. Or you could use one of the premade Plug Site layouts available for download on the Download page. If you are going to make your own try to make sure things don't look too cluttered, don't cover the site in adverts and be sure to credit Plugboard.org for the script ;)

* Most Plug sites use the same rules so here are some for you to copy and paste:
1. Wait until your plug has been pushed off the board before plugging again. <br /> 2. Buttons for the 88x31 plugboard must be 88x31 pixels in size exactly. Buttons for the 80x15 plugbaord must be 80x15 pixels in size exactly. Buttons for the 468x60 plugboard must be 468x60 pixels in size exactly. <br /> 3. Make sure your host allows direct linking. <br /> 4. No Porn sites, no 'Free ipod' crap or similar and no sites promoting illegal activity. (or any site an admin deems as inappropriate) <br /> 5. 'Chatting' on the Tagboard is not allowed, it is for site promotion only. <br /> 6. The Admin reserves the right to remove any plug for any reason, whether stated here or not. <br /> 7. Please visit some other plugged sites while you are here. It's how Plug sites work.

* Stand out
Let's face it, all plug site pretty much look the same and have the same features etc, that's pretty unavoidable...but if your plug site is to suceed it needs to have something to draw people back. You either need a mindblowingly good layout, something unique and new or you need to be known for sending out a nice amount of hits.

* Advertise it
Ok now you are all set up and ready to go it's time to get your name out there, there's so many Plug Sites these days you really do have to work to get people using...and more importantly continuing to use...your site. Plug it on Plugboards like crazy to start with, I know I always click links to other/new Plug sites when I see them on boards...check the big Plug Sites and add yourself to their links section where ever possible...for example I know my Plug Sites page sends out a lot of hits. Also join Plugboard.orgs Toplist.
